Get Well Soon!

When I first read about Dr Mahathir’s second bypass earlier this month it made me felt real bad; probably because I can still remember my own experience vividly. Yes it’s so bad I won’t want to wish it to even my f%@*&#^ enemy; not even for a Kompressor (that’s another story altogether ;)

I know for sure it’s not good if one has to get back to the ICU after getting out; what’s more when he had to go through yet
another surgery. But then again we are talking about the toughest old man in the country! I know he’ll get this through, with all the prayers from the well wishers all over the world and strongest support from his family.

I pray for Tun and wish him a speedy recovery.

Merdeka!

It’s our 50th Merdeka, and we have every reason to be proud about it. For such a young developing nation, it has no less achievement in every aspect, comparing with many developed countries; it has several of the tallest buildings and longest bridges in the world, etc…

That’s the smarter part. but...

At the same time… we could be very angry with a
young rapper for criticizing the Leaders using the national anthem, while we seemed to be contented with a finding that our national anthem was actually ‘adapted’ from a Hawaiian love song? And we seem to loose count how many young people got killed in the National Service Camps every intake?

God knows how much time and money we have spent for this celebrations; numerous
mega banners; fussing over who’s not waving the flags; world search for an antique car; road closures during rush hours in the city to facilitate parade rehearsals; measuring patriotism by shouting ‘Merdeka’ in the parliament; reinventing irrelevant rules; and even to the extend of foregoing the opportunity of becoming the Commonwealth Secretary General? All in the name of preparing for the 50th celebration!

A five-year-old trapped in a fifty-year-old body?

My Merdeka wish? I wish it'll grow up, be mature and keep pace with the time, quickly.

Hey even Google celebrates Merdeka!

Some of us are certainly good at getting attentions. Check out this Merdeka by-product ;)

Heart Sick (10)

Day #3, Aug 1, 2006.

I opened my eyes, couldn’t comprehend where was I, why was I lying on a bed, what was the time… then I realized I was woken up by a nurse (nurse….? Oh good, not an Angel!) and the first person I saw was Peggy. I couldn’t speak as there was a tube running into my throat, and I briefly remembered gestured with my hand telling her not to worry. I felt very groggy and fell to sleep immediately after that…

Day #4, Aug 2, 2006

I woke up a day later, and managed to stay awake for a longer period. I felt terribly muzzy and terribly thirsty. Couldn’t ask for the date and time to know how long was it ago since my surgery, as the tube was still in my throat. Finally a nurse came by and as if she could read my mind, with a cheerful voice, told me that I was ‘sleeping like a baby’ for the past 1 day; all’s fine and I was in the Intensive Care Unit. She said I needed more rest and it’s ok if I felt groggy and thirsty since I was filled with morphine. But I was not to drink any water till they pulled out the ventilator’s tube from my throat “in another 1 or 2 days’ time’.

I noticed there were many tubes running out of my body; one in my throat, several from my neck, and at least 4 more from my chest… I couldn't move a muscle! And I must’ve looked like Frankenstein!

What followed was a "woke up, fell to sleep, woke up, fell to sleep again" cycle…

It could be worst...
